The Three Pigs
Wiesner, D. (2001). The Three Pigs. NY: Clarion.
When starting this Caldecott Medal-winning picture book, we think it will be the same old tale of the three little pigs we all grew up reading. But when the wolf starts huffing and puffing the first pig's house, he blows the first pig right out of the story, then he blows the second and third pig out as well. The pigs are now on an adventure through other stories and make some new friends. In the end the pigs and their new friends go to the third pig's brick home and live happily ever after.
This version of the Three Pigs is unlike any you have read before. It is undeniable unique and creative. The author and illustrator, David Wiesner, plays with the conventional layout of picture books and creates something unlike any other book. I recommend this book for readers ages 5-8.
