Book Review of Good Masters, Sweet Ladies

Good Masters, Sweet Ladies

Schlitz, L. A. (2007). Good Masters, Sweet Ladies. Boston, MA: Candlewick Press.

Good Masters, Sweet Ladies is structured in 19 short stories, 17 of those being monologues and 2 are dialogues. This book is set in medieval England 1255 and the reader is introduced to 22 individuals who live and work the same medieval village. They describe how they survive and the condition of the days they live in. They also tell amusing and funny stories as well.

This Newbery award winning book takes a fascinating look at what it really was like to live during medieval times. I think this book could be used quite easily in a world history class to really gain perspective of living during those times. The illustrations in the book were quite beautiful and should be really looked at to see all the small details. I would recommend this book for aged 10 and up.
